Captain, we need more, ahhh, stupid header – I want one of these

You know what you can never have too much of? Power. Sure, sure, it corrupts and all. But when you have real power at your fingertips, you can achieve so much. Thinking of power-lusters such as myself, Ultra Products has put out a 2000 watt power supply for good computer fun. I’m guessing you could run a couple of good video cards along with lots of hard drives and a CPU or 2 with this much power.

ultra_2000w_psu.jpg

The Ultra X3 Modular 2000W PSU has a footprint that is similar to the PC Power & Cooling 1000W power supply. This means this PSU comes in at 10.25 inches long and doubles the power rating all while keeping the same form factor!

. . . “It’s not so much that we believe personal computers today need as much as 2000W of power,” explains George Ali, Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Ultra Products. “In fact, most household circuits can’t even provide the AC power this unit would require in order to put out 2000W of DC power. But there’s the always-inevitable questions of ‘Do I have enough power?’ or ‘Does my power supply have enough juice where my high end components need it.’ That is why we have put together this 2000W unit; as the end all of power supplies as far as DC output goes. With as much as 1800W available on the 12V alone, there should be no concern whatsoever that there is enough power available for quad core, quad GPU or large drive arrays.”

The down side is this sucker looks to only have one 12V rail – a potential no-no if you are going by the ATX12V 2.2 guidelines.

The PSU puts out more than enough on the 12V rail that this isn’t a real concern, I think, but there is still a potential for problems in some cases.

Robosapian v2 for $100

Hit Amazon.com and check out your gold box. You should see the WowWee Robosapian Version 2 at a 50% off $99.99 price. If only I could get the wife to get me one. I believe the sale is over after today. My direct link is probably screwed up because of the posting software I’m using, in which case just use the Amazon search feature or check your gold box.

Buy one to further spread the robots’ influence around the world, thereby easing the work needed in their upcoming uprising and taking over the world.

I know I’m not needed, but can I just watch?

What else can you say, when you find out Eva Longoria says something like this?

Eva Longoria has lesbian crushes on Jessica Alba, Jessica Simpson and Eva Mendes.

The ‘Desperate Wives’ star says the stunning threesome, who are all neighbours, have a very “special” relationship.

That’s a party I want to go to.

LED booklight

lightwedge140.jpgThis is a slightly cooler than normal booklight, I think. It might be a hassle to switch sides of the page a lot, which appears to be necessary based on how it is built. I can see this light illuminating a page more evenly than any other booklight I’ve seen, though, which makes it totally worth having. It’s in the mid to upper $20 range, depending on which version you get. Geek-boy (yes, I stopped maturing around the age of 7 – that makes me still a boy, at least inside) that I am, I think I’d like the Harry Potter version.

Pure joy for only $6.99?

This is another of the occasional “this funny [whatever] was sent to me by a cow-orker, so I’m posting it” posts I put up.

slingshot-monkey-title.gif

Get a screaming, flying, fake (as opposed to living), fuzzy slingshot monkey for only $6.99 (plus shipping, of course, and maybe tax, depending on where you live). Utterly useless and stupid, but funny enough for me to want one. At $6.99, I thought about just ordering one, but I’m trying to stop the impulsive buying garbage I’ve done too often in the past.

What do you get when you cross a slingshot with a monkey?

Well, if it’s a real monkey, you probably get a dead monkey. But if it’s a toy monkey, you get this amazing new invention.

Alba – No curves for me?

jessica_alba_good_luck_chuck.jpgIn a case of not knowing that I think she’s perfect, Ms. Alba has apparently said she wants to be taller and thinner. Now I love me the tall ladies for sure (who, for the record, I think is also mighty fine), but the thinner thing is right out, Jessica. Sadly, she did not consult me before expressing a desire to look different.

According to In Touch magazine, Jessica said:

I have curves, but I don’t really like them. I wish I was skinnier and taller.

No, no, dear – you’re perfect just the way you are. That is all.

Coolest pinball machine evar!!1!

I’m a gamer. I’m pretty sure everyone who knows me realizes that. My frequent gaming related posts here should give some clue, I suppose. As a gamer, I’ve seen all kinds of gaming things I’ve wanted – consoles, PC upgrades, arcade machines, and more. Nothing I can recall, though, has ever appealed to the gamer geeky gadget gotta-get guy like this LCD-playboard based UltraPin pinball machine the Retro-things folks saw at Pinball Expo in Chicago.

ultrapin.jpg

One interesting development at the show is UltraPin by Global VR. From a distance, this 250 lb machine resembles a machine from the past. When you get closer, you realize that the play field is actually a 32-inch 16:9 flat monitor, and the traditional dot matrix scoring screen on the back glass has been augmented by a second monitor. To keep the experience as real as possible, UltraPin features a force feedback system that allows you to bump (and tilt) the machine in a quest for a high-score.

The machine actually comes with 6 emulated classic tables, with additional table 6-packs for post-sales add-ons. Naturally, it comes with a real downside (as darn near every ultra-cool thing in the world does) – this puppy costs $6500. That, and apparently the pinball graphic does not reflect the surrounding virtual table.

Frigits – marble structures for your refrigerator

frigit-fridge.giffrigits.jpgRefrigerator marble tracks? How could that not be considered cool? Get your own set at Firebox.com for only $30.

And if that doesn’t quite catch your fancy but you like the marble theme, try out Marble Racer instead, for just $30-$40 (depending on which set you buy).
